Duties
The Register of Deeds is charged with recording and preserving all land records. It is through these records that an accurate tax roll is built and maintained. If the records in the Register of Deeds office are not maintained properly, the system would eventually fail.
The Register of Deeds must work with other county officials and with the private sector to keep these records accurate and useable.
The office is responsible for recording the following:
- Deeds
- Mortgages
- Plats/Surveys
- Oil and Gas Leases and Assignments
- Federal and State Tax Liens
- Death Certificates
- Personal Property Liens (UCCs)
- Any other documents statutorily approved
