Advance Voting
Voters must be registered in Linn County to cast
an advance ballot. Voter registration books are open for new
registrations, changes of names, and changes of address or other
information until 21 days prior to any election.
Voters may request an advance ballot by mail.
The application form is available in the clerk’s office or on the web
site. Applications for advance ballots by mail may be filed with the
clerk's office anytime until noon on the Friday before an election.
Advance ballots will be mailed as soon as they are received from the
printer, which is usually two weeks prior to Election Day.
Advance ballots that are not voted in person at
the clerk's office at the courthouse must be delivered by mail to the
voter's registered address or to an alternate address that can be
written on the advance ballot application form.
After completion the ballot must be sealed in an
envelope provided, with the voter's signature on the exterior of the
envelope. The ballot may be returned by mail or by hand to the clerk’s
office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day.
Voters who want to cast an advance ballot by
mail should allow adequate time for their advance ballot application to
be delivered to the clerk's office, the ballot to be mailed to the
voter, and the completed ballot to be returned to the clerk's office by
